Katy Perry is teaming up with Pokémon for its 25th anniversary and creating a new music program for the video game franchise – something she said was inspired by her daughter.

The singer, 36, is mum to baby girl Daisy, now four months, who she shares with fiancé Orlando Bloom.

Daisy was born in August and since then, Katy has been revelling in her new mumma duties, which seem to have only inspired new and exciting working opportunities for her too.

Katy has revealed that she is teaming up with Pokémon to help celebrate its huge milestone, after realising just how ‘important it is to play’ since having her own child.

‘I love being a part of anything that is playful and is good storytelling and has really good messages to share with the world,’ Katy told People magazine of the upcoming collaboration.

‘Now having a child myself, I understand that it’s so important to play, this is a continued extension of who I am.’

Katy, who is a huge fan of Pokémon character Pikachu because he’s ‘really cute’ and also has a little depth to him too, said that she’s hoping her new project will offer a little light in what’s been a tough year all around given the ongoing pandemic.

‘In this moment of unknown, there are dependable places and characters and institutions and people, and I hope I can be one of them,’ she said of of her involvement. ‘That’s what I hope for in my personal self.’

Little details are known when it comes to just how exactly Katy will be working with Pokémon, but her addition to their anniversary project was revealed in a short promo video released on YouTube on Wednesday.

A sign teases Katy’s collaboration and her stand-out vocals can be heard just as the video wraps up, but will fans will have to wait a little longer to see how things unfold.

It’s not the first time Katy has got herself involved in gaming. Remember the time she recorded her hit Last Friday Night in Simlish for The Sims?

Katy was made into a Sim for the game and even had her own spin-off The Sims 3: Katy Perry’s Sweet Treats that was totally inspired by her and her style.

The Roar hit-maker’s latest gaming project comes after she became a mum to little Daisy Dove. Katy and hubby-to-be Orlando chose to announce their daughter’s arrival in a statement shared by Unicef that revealed the couple were ‘floating with love and wonder’ after welcoming their new addition.

Since then, Katy has been opening up about motherhood and joked in December that the lack of sleep that comes with a baby can be a real challenge.

‘I’m a new mother. My daughter – she’s such a gift – but there is sometimes a challenge concerning sleep! No matter how much support you have,’ Katy said, before then joking: ‘Where am I going to get those six hours that I used to get? Where did it go?’

Orlando, meanwhile, has revealed that while he first thought daughter Daisy looked like him, he was pleased to see she has the same eyes as her mum.

Speaking on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Orlando revealed: ‘It was funny because when she first came out, I was like, “Oh, it’s me! It’s a mini-me.” And then, fortunately, she got those Katy blues, which was perfect.’

‘But, then she sort of looks like my mum,’ he said. ‘So, then I got a little confused because Katy’s breastfeeding this mini-me slash my mum – who’s she going to look like next?’
