46: SECOND HALF! Aberdeen get us back underway…

Sky Sports’ Kris Boyd during half-time…

“It is probably better that Rangers allow Aberdeen to have a little bit of possession and try to get up the pitch, because in the transition Rangers are really, really good at it. They’re quick in the wide areas. If in the second half Aberdeen come out, Rangers could start to pick them off.

“From an Aberdeen point of view it is important they don’t start chasing it, because Rangers will pick them off.”

Sky Sports’ Andy Walker offers his predictions ahead of the first weekend of the 2020/21 Scottish Premiership football season.

Walker on Dundee United: “I thought it was a bit of a surprise for Robbie Neilson to leave Dundee United [for Hearts] after being so impressive there, really skating the Scottish Championship last season and winning the title so comfortably. I thought he might be excited about what could happen there.

“They’ve got the type of set up there and the type of team that could be one of those promoted sides who come up and they don’t just sit by, they really thrive and I think Dundee United could surprise some clubs and get themselves into the top six.”

Boyd on Dundee United: “There’s no doubt that winning the Scottish Championship is one thing but coming up, it’s going to be difficult. I don’t think we’re expecting to see the Dundee United we’ve seen of old and it will be difficult for them.

“They won the Scottish Championship pretty easily but it’s a big step up from that Championship to the Premiership and I think it could be too big a step for Dundee United unless they get a few players in.”

Boyd on St Johnstone: “Callum [Davidson] knows the club, he knows the people around it. I think for the squad they’ve got, it’s another fresh challenge… When there’s a new manager with fresh ideas, you might see them kicking on again, it happens all the time.

“I think St Johnstone will be OK, I really do. It’s a well-run club, everything behind the scenes, even through the pandemic, they seem to be one of the clubs that haven’t really said much, they seem to be OK.

“I’m looking forward to seeing St Johnstone this year because you don’t want anyone to lose their job but that stress of a new manager and a new challenge, it’ll be interesting to see how they do.”

HALF TIME! There’s no stoppage time as the referee brings an end to the first half.

So far, so good for Rangers, who lead thanks to Ryan Kent’s 21st minute strike.

Aberdeen haven’t got going as an attacking force as of yet and Derek McInnes will be hoping to rectify that at the break.

The 2020/21 Scottish Premiership campaign will be a season like no other, according to the new Sky Sports Scottish Football podcast.

Ahead of the new season, which will be broadcast exclusively live on Sky Sports, Andy Walker and Kris Boyd joined Ian Crocker for a special preview on our new podcast.

Sky Sports will be the only broadcaster to offer live coverage of the 2020/21 SPFL season with 48 games available on the new home of Scottish football, marking the start of a new five-year deal.

It includes the creation of a ‘virtual season ticket’ for Scottish Premiership clubs during the 2020/21 season, providing an alternative source of matchday income while social distancing measures prevent fans from attending matches. Each Premiership club will be able to sell a package to season ticket holders to watch all home games.
